From a young age, I battled with severe allergies and chronic respiratory issues. I genuinely believed that I might always have to live with the symptoms as nothing in conventional medicine changed my experience. But life has a way of guiding us.
A significant health event in my family was the nudge I needed to re-evaluate everything I knew about wellness. This curiosity led me to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. Here, I dove deeper into nutrition and its profound effects on health. After my studies, I moved away from over-the-counter medications and antibiotics. Instead, I nurtured my body with nourishing food choices and reduced my exposure to everyday toxins. The result? A complete transformation of my health, altering not just my physical well-being but the very way I perceived health.
Bridging Trauma and Holistic Healing
In my journey as a social worker and therapist, the undeniable influence of past and current trauma on one’s health became clear. It wasn’t just about the emotional dysregulation people presented with; I began to understand the interconnectedness of our mind, body, and spirit on our overall well-being. My specialized training in both trauma and functional medicine offers a unique lens-one that seeks to discover and heal what’s at the root of wellness issues, not just the symptoms.
Lessons from Life Challenges
Life can be full of unexpected twists and turns. From experiencing chronic stress and grief to adjusting to mid-life challenges and facing unforeseen health issues, I’ve walked through many of the same challenges. These experiences have instilled in me two unwavering truths: wellness is a journey, and given the right conditions, our bodies can heal in remarkable ways.
